Press Release

Saint-Elzéar, April 23, 2020 - Texel Technical Materials, a division of Lydall Inc., has responded to the Canadian government's request for Canadian companies to join forces to meet the urgent demand for medical protective equipment during the coronavirus - Covid-19 crisis.

A collaboration between many companies and organizations

Thanks to the coordination efforts of CTT Group, Vestechpro and TechniTextile Québec, the Québec textile sector has mobilized to meet the demand for the establishment of a supply chain for domestic medical grade textile materials in Québec and Canada. Collaboration between the government and the various contributors of this initiative has been essential to ensure that companies present products that meet the requirements of these critical applications.

Protective medical gowns

For several weeks, Texel has been working hard on developing a nonwoven that meets the requirements for the manufacturing of medical protective gowns. Thanks to a collaboration with "Atlantic Coated Papers Ltd" located in Windsor, Québec, which will extrude a protective membrane, the goal of producing a material that qualifies for protective level 2 medical gowns has been achieved. This new material designed and manufactured in Québec is now available to Canadian protective clothing manufacturers.

Texel and Lydall research and development team

Texel's research and development team, in collaboration with team members from his parent company, Lydall Inc., has produced several prototypes of nonwoven materials for testing purposes to meet the requirements of the medical gown industry. The hard work of the Canadian team to meet the needs of the local population has led to the Versaflex Medical Grade product creation.

The development team would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the front-line medical staff for their work and dedication during the Covid-19 crisis.
