The Textile Industry: A Source of Pride for Québec

News - Intro image

Choose the Quebec Textile Seal of Quality

Did you know that over 45% of Canadian textiles are manufactured in Québec? And that these products may be found in a host of sectors: agriculture, furniture, construction, defense, packaging, the environment, civil engineering, industry, medicine, personal protection, sports, transportation and clothing?

The textile world is full of remarkable stories highlighting the know-how and expertise of artisans and workers dedicated to this industry that’s inextricably woven into Québec’s history and heritage.

Québec’s technical textile materials ecosystem is making massive investments in R&D to continue offering more powerful, innovative and durable products that meet the highest quality standards.

Stakeholders in the sector are joining forces on impactful projects that will promote the emergence of high-performance materials and enhance the global leadership of this cutting-edge industry, which is renowned as a key pillar of the Québec economy.

Here are a few of our Québec ambassadors and proud participants in the Bien d’ici (Local Goods) campaign launched by the TechniTextile Québec materials cluster.

Fashionable Acoustic Comfort

Located in Beauce, FELTKÜTUR produces 100% made-in-Québec felt acoustic panels with designs inspired by haute couture, which customers may use to establish creative, dynamic and flexible work environments. Feltkütur is one of the few Québec-based felt manufacturers today that is capable of making acoustic products from scratch within the province. The company collaborates with local partners such as Lessard, Panolite and EMBLM to offer its customers unique products. Its line may be found at Quincaillerie Richelieu, among other retailers.

Soothing Compression Apparel

Over more than 30 years, Montérégie’s CDRM has successfully established itself in specialized niches serving vulnerable customers. Its products include compression apparel such as orthotic devices for the skin, which are essential for healing severe burns. The Québec company has also developed unique expertise in designing and manufacturing hernia trusses, post-surgical garments, compression gloves and stoma belts. What’s more, its knowledge of applied compression is useful in the design of transgender underwear and training leggings, to name a couple of examples.

Clothing That Protects Our People

NATPRO is another 100% made-in-Québec success story. Founded in 1954, the company is today managed by three extraordinary women. Each year, it manufactures over 40,000 personal protection products at its factory in St-Stanislas, Mauricie. Whether waterproof, fire-resistant or featuring other specific protective properties, Napro’s wide range of products—gloves, jackets, pants, overalls and more—are highly sought by welders, miners and other specialists across North America. It’s no surprise that thousands of workers put their trust in Natpro’s seal of quality each day.

Québec’s textile industry is strong and thriving. It has been a core sector of the province’s economy for over 150 years and continues to stand out through remarkable advances in the development of value-added technical materials. The sector is made up of 400 companies who focus on manufacturing textiles, textile-based products and specialized apparel. Its 10,000 employees are working to protect you, improve your comfort and, first and foremost, make your life easier.

" From fibre to finished product,
400 Québec manufacturers are making your life
safer, more enjoyable and more comfortable."
